"Long, tapering neck with no throatiness, deep at the base and rising well up from the shoulders. The head is carried high."

Yes, there is such a thing as "too much neck!" Indeed "ewe" necks and necks that are so long they are weak are quite common now. Everything in moderation should be the idea. Equally offending is a heavy set, thick neck which seldom happens, but which appears to be so in many dogs because of the way they are presented (groomed). More on that later.

Justification for a correct neck: It is powerful yet agile and allows the dog great reach without making the neck so long as to be a liability.

Faults often seen: Necks too long and thin. Ewe-necks. Necks that appear too heavy. Why? Perhaps it is because long necks can look elegant and eye-catching and therefore may meet with more success in the ring.
